Burmese Ebony Phallus
This
classic piece is finely fashioned from
hardwood, which is also called "lost wood" in Asia; there
are cryptic inscriptions
on both sides of the shaft. The
phallus is revered, displayed and worn, in smaller versions (such as
an amulet), in many parts of Asia, as it
is a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
This piece measures 12 inches in length, which is slightly overstated by approximately one-half
inch, not an uncommon occurrence.
