THE FROG AND THE CRICKET

The cricket is a ruby surrounded by zoisite, a variety of epidote forming the frog, the one who would have him for lunch.  This is an intensely carved piece from Thailand and is, without question, one of a kind.  Note the detail and quality, not only in the carving but also in the placement of the creatures in the natural material and setting. The close-up picture, below, shows the leaf upon which the frog sits.  The carver of this piece said the inspiration and  execution for this creation emanated from the heavens.  This exquisite piece measures approximately 1-1/2 inches in height by 2-1/4 inches at the widest point.
