Three Outstanding Nias Figures
From Nias
Island, south of Sumatra, in Indonesia. These pieces are
ceremonial figures which are looked to, in this part of Indonesia, for abundance and protection.
Based on the patina and craftsmanship, the age appears to be mid
20th century. Several check marks have
developed over the years due to lack of Indonesian humidity in California. The
four-armed
fellow has chipped left fingers. As a trio they are truly impressive. 16
inches from tip to base.
