Fine Old Lord Ganesha, Tibet

Ganesha, or Ganapati, is an extremely popular god in India, where he is also called Vighnaharta, the Destroyer of Obstacles.  Ganesha  is called upon to bring success and luck in undertakings, and through the centuries has been the recipient of a myriad of known and benevolent powers.  This ten-inch Tibetan piece is gilt and bronze and is well over 150 years old.  His blithe angled pose with one foot upon a shrew, his vehicle, and with his other foot on a lotus flower, hints of an impending movement into dance.
