TIKAR RITUALISTIC PUNISHMENT FIGURE

The pained expression is in keeping with the use of this tribal piece. There are holes on the back board where the heavy carving is strapped to the member doing penance for going against tribal law; to wear it is a sign of shame. This is a splendidly well-carved piece, with rich aged patina over very dense hardwood.
Many tribes used these implements, and we are not certain of the origin of this 12 inch unusual piece.  We estimate the age, conservatively, to be 40-60 years old.
