FIJIAN TABUA
This is an old presentation
piece given as
great tribute to Fijian chiefs. The tooth is sperm
whale, which was taken long before these natural materials were
banned. The square braid pandanus fiber may indicate the piece was originally from
Samoa; there is a break in the link with plenty of material for reweaving. The tooth
measures 5-1/2 inches, and the chain measures approximately 24
inches. This piece has good patina and shows great age.
